The Galerie im Traklhaus is holding an exhibition by film-maker, performer and painter Mara Mattuschka (b 1959 in Sofia, has lived in Vienna since 1976).

A cross-section of her film works will be presented, including animated films dating from the early 1980s and three short films, the most recent made this year. Also on display will be a special selection of her paintings. The focus of her works in both media is on the human figure in all its nakedness, a major role being played by the relationship of the person to accessories and the surrounding space. Mattuschka prefers intimate perspectives, including a view of the body from above.

“I have no choice; I just do what I can, what occurs to me. I think it’s ultimately political, placing emphasis on the intimate, private, psychological.”
(Mara Mattuschka in Der Standard 16.3.2009)
