Ok. oskar: 70 Years School of Seeing

On the occasion of Gallery Week_end Salzburg we would like to draw your intention to our current exhibition Playboard by Ad Minoliti: and the screening of Dana Kavelina’s: Letter to a Turtledove at the gallery Kunst im Traklhaus (until 13 May 2023).

Founded in 1953 as a “school of seeing” by the renowned Austrian painter Oskar Kokoschka, the anniversary project “Ok. oskar” redefines the pedagogical relationship of an academy today.

OSKAR KOKOSCHKA. Stormy years in Berlin

6 May to 26 October 2023
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Oskar Kokoschka Documentation, the Kokoschka Museum Pöchlarn invites you to the exhibition ‘Oskar Kokoschka. Stormy Years in Berlin’.

Oskar Kokoschka’s explicit depictions of femicide and structural patriarchal violence are frighteningly topical. His radical formal language in painting and graphic art has fascinated artists for many generations, as the exhibition project “Kokoschka in Dialogue” with students from the Department of Painting and Animated Film at the University of Applied Arts Vienna shows. This collaboration will continue with Salzburg’s summer academy around the “School of Seeing” concept later in the fall.

Galerie Kunst im Traklhaus

On its 70th anniversary, the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg presents six exhibitions at the Galerie Kunst im Traklhaus from April to September 2023, featuring international artists who approach seeing (perceiving) today from a feminist, queer, non-binary perspective. The focus is on artistic practices of expanded painting and digital creation that explore worlds of equality and common sense.

The artistic work of the teaching artists Ad Minoliti (Argentina), Mette Sterre (Netherlands), Karol Radziszewski (Poland), Ulrike Müller (Austria/US) and Shu Lea Cheang (Taiwan/France) will be presented in solo exhibitions. A group exhibition in cooperation with the Department of Painting and animated film under the professorship of Judith Eisler and with the assistance of Stefan Wykydal (University of Applied Arts Vienna) and in collaboration with the Oskar Kokoschka Documentation Centre (Pöchlarn) presents works by students who deal with Oskar Kokoschka as an artist, teacher and stage designer, among others.
