The old salt factory, built in the mid-19th century and extended during the 1920s, was in use as a refinery until 1989. It stands on the Pernerinsel (Perner Island) between two arms of the River Salzach in the centre of Hallein, a town of some 20,000 inhabitants. These spacious premises are ideal for installation or performance classes and for students wishing to do site-related work. The Alte Saline is equipped for disabled people.
